The Only Game in Town
For years the Mediven plant was the only game in town. I can remember everyone in high school trying to do everything they could to get out, so that they wouldn’t have to spend their life in this one company. My father worked there for a great many years, and although he said that it was a decent job, he said that at times the boredom was just too much to bear. Imagine, he’d say, spending every single day of your life operating a Mediven compression stockingproducing machine.
He would always tell me some sort of anecdote like this whenever I told him that I didn’t like doing my homework. Although he was a tough man to be raised by, now that I’m an adult and stepping out into the world, I’m starting to see exactly why he pushed me the way he did. It’s turning out that everything he ever taught me is something that I can use out in the real world. The other day I saw a woman buying Juzo support hose at a local drugstore. Seeing this made my thoughts wander off and start pondering all of my father’s lessons. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to pass all of this wisdom on to my son.
